Webster's dictionary defines sandblast as "a high-speed jet of sand used to engrave or cut glass....polish a metal surface".

Whether sandblasting on a flat surface or on a three dimensional object, simply stated, the surface to be sandblasted is masked off with a resist material, a design is cut out of the resist material and areas that are to be sandblasted are exposed and sandblasted with an abrasive material.  Resist and abrasive material can vary depending on the artist's preference and the desired effect of the finished product.  Albeit, work on glass slate, marble or metal the final effects of custom sandblasting are limited only by one's design experience and imagination.

This is a photo of Stephanie at the blasting cabinet.  Although she is sandblasting inside a cabinet she is wearing a respirator to prevent her from inhaling fine abrasive and glass particles that may escape from the cabinet.  Earmuffs protect her hearing from the noise the dust collector makes.

When sandblasting large panels she wears coveralls, a hood, respirator and earmuffs and is standing completely inside the large sandblasting booth.  The large booth has its own dust collector to remove the fine particles from the booth.
